Israel strikes Iran, explosions rock Tehran, Tabriz, Isfahan

The retaliatory strike came a day after Iran fired missiles at Israel, raising the risk of wider regional escalation.

The Israeli military on Monday (8/6) launched a retaliatory strike on Iran targeting what it described as military sites. Iran's state television reported explosions in Tehran, Tabriz and Isfahan, across the country's west through its center. There was no official report yet on casualties or the extent of the damage. The strike came one day after Iran fired a series of missiles at Israel on Sunday (7/6). Tehran described the earlier attack as a “warning” after Israel struck Lebanon's border over the weekend. Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir had earlier said the IDF was ready to attack with full force once it received the green light. United States President Donald Trump also said he would call Benjamin Netanyahu to urge Israel not to retaliate, amid concern that peace negotiations would be further hindered.
