Iran Rejects Military Intervention in Saudi-Houthi Conflict
Tehran said the Bab Al Mandab incident stems from long-running regional disputes, as the Houthi blockade disrupts Saudi oil supplies.
Iran rejected military intervention in the escalating conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi in Yemen and urged a settlement through dialogue. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there is no military solution to Yemen, the Bab Al Mandab Strait or other regional tensions. He also dismissed the idea that the situation in Yemen is directly tied to Iran. Tensions rose this month after the Houthi declared a blockade of Saudi ports and claimed attacks on tanker ships. The move was seen as threatening Saudi Arabia's ability to move oil supplies, amid a parallel blockade by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. On Friday, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree said they were not closing general traffic in Bab Al Mandab and that the maritime blockade targeted only the Saudi side.
