Iran fires missiles at Israel, first strike since truce

Teheran said the attack was retaliation for Israeli strikes in Lebanon and warned of broader escalation if attacks are repeated.

Iran launched missiles into Israel on Sunday night, marking the first direct attack since a fragile ceasefire took effect in April. The Israeli military said several missiles were fired at the north, triggering air raid sirens and the activation of defenses to intercept incoming projectiles. Most of the missiles were reportedly intercepted or fell in open areas, and there were no reports of casualties. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attack was retaliation for Israeli strikes linked to Hizbullah in Beirut and the suffering of residents in Tyre and Nabatieh, southern Lebanon. Iran also warned that if attacks on Lebanon continue, its response will be broader.
