Iran fires missiles at Israel after Beirut airstrike

It was the first direct strike since the April ceasefire, as Iran also said the U.S. bears consequences.

Iran fired several missiles at northern Israel on Sunday night, hours after threatening retaliation for an Israeli airstrike in Beirut’s southern suburbs, Lebanon. Air raid sirens sounded across several areas of Israel and air defense systems were activated. CNN Indonesia reported that the volley marked the first direct attack since a fragile ceasefire took effect in April. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the Israeli strike on Beirut violated the boundaries agreed to preserve calm after the ceasefire. In a Telegram statement cited by Antara, Tehran also said the United States bears direct responsibility for Israel’s ceasefire violation in Lebanon and the consequences of the escalation.
