Trump urges Netanyahu to stop Israeli strikes on Beirut

Trump said no Israeli troops would enter Beirut as the flare-up briefly disrupted U.S.-Iran negotiations.

President Donald Trump urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt a major attack on Beirut after Israel resumed heavy strikes on Lebanon. Citing Axios, as reported by CNN Indonesia, the two men held a highly tense phone call on Monday (1/6), during which Trump warned Israel could become further isolated if it carried out threats to bomb Beirut. After the call, Trump wrote on Truth Social that no troops would be sent to Beirut and that the shelling between Israel and Hizbullah would stop. Netanyahu separately said Israel would still strike Hizbullah targets in Beirut if attacks on Israeli territory continued, while pressing ahead with ground operations in southern Lebanon. The escalation was also said to have disrupted talks between the United States and Iran.
