Hasto Ties Alleged Illegal Wiretapping to MK 90 Ruling
Hasto says wiretapping is used to pressure critics, while KAHMI says a case targeting the President points to treason.
PDIP Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto linked the rise in alleged illegal wiretapping to Constitutional Court Decision No. 90 of 2023, which changed the age requirement for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. Hasto said the practice was used to silence parties critical of Joko Widodo's government ahead of the 2024 election. He said he had faced pressure after taking a critical stance and alleged that information from illegal wiretaps was used to pressure political opponents. Hasto also said wiretapping the president was unacceptable and called for wiretapping to be returned to a strict legal mechanism with court approval. Separately, MN KAHMI said allegations of wiretapping President Prabowo Subianto and several state officials pointed to treason and urged Bareskrim Polri to fully investigate the case.
