BPOM monitors 263,000 illegal cosmetics links, mostly on e-commerce

More than 70 percent of the findings came from online sales, and about 2,000 cosmetic items have been blacklisted.

BPOM is monitoring 263,000 digital links suspected of promoting and selling illegal cosmetics across various e-commerce platforms. BPOM chief Taruna Ikrar said the links have been reported to the Ministry of Communication and Digital and to the relevant platforms for removal. According to BPOM, more than 70 percent of illegal cosmetics distribution now takes place online, while 20-30 percent is still sold offline. BPOM has also blacklisted about 2,000 cosmetic items, including more than 900 newer items. The findings are linked to the exposure of illegal imported cosmetics distribution in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang Regency, Banten, where BPOM found 2,082,039 products from 956 types of goods. Most were decorative cosmetics from China that were suspected of entering through unofficial channels.
