APHI, GAPKI push joint protocol to speed wildfire response
The forestry and palm oil groups want access routes, village emergency contacts and unified command so crews can reach fires faster.
The Indonesian Forest Entrepreneurs Association (APHI) and the Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (GAPKI) are pushing for a joint protocol to speed the suppression of forest and land fires. The plan is intended to help communities, companies, local governments, the TNI, Polri, Manggala Agni and BPBD open access to fire points and move without obstacles in the first hours of a blaze. APHI Chairman Soewarso said PBPH holder companies have prepared personnel, command posts, vehicles, pumps, water sources and other equipment, including to help fight fires outside their concessions if the flames threaten to spread. GAPKI Chairman Eddy Martono added that wildfire-prone villages need emergency numbers, a single-channel communication line, fire-access maps, water source points and a list of personnel who can be contacted immediately.
