Jordan Condemns Seizure of Church Land in Silwan, East Jerusalem
Amman urged international pressure, saying the seizure violated the status quo at Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
Jordan condemned the seizure of land owned by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Silwan, East Jerusalem, under Israeli occupation. In a WAFA report cited by Antara on Saturday (20/6), Jordan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said the move was a clear violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem. Ministry spokesman Fuad Al-Majali said Amman rejected unilateral actions and provocative practices aimed at changing the order in the holy city. Jordan also reiterated that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or Muslim and Christian holy sites, and called on the international community to press for an end to the illegal action.
