Yellowstone keeps bison after it hurled tourist 8 feet

What's new: The 65-year-old Washington man had surgery for a broken femur and was standing the next day, park officials said.

Yellowstone National Park will not euthanize the bull bison that hurled a 65-year-old visitor about 8 feet into the air at Bridge Bay Campground near Yellowstone Lake on July 10. The injured tourist, Carl Isom-McDaniel of Kendall, Washington, suffered a broken femur near his hip, underwent surgery on July 12 and was recovering well by the next day. Video of the attack spread online after photographer Mike MacLeod recorded the animal charging Isom-McDaniel as he was with his 13-year-old grandson. MacLeod said neither appeared to provoke the bison. Park officials said the animal, estimated at about 900 kilograms, was likely more aggressive because mating season is beginning.
