Yellowstone bison gored man, tossed him 8 feet at campground

What's new: The July 10 attack at Bridge Bay Campground left Carl Isom-McDaniel with multiple broken bones after the animal charged other campers.

A bull bison injured a man at Yellowstone National Park on July 10, lifting him about 8 feet into the air after catching him near the hip with a horn at Bridge Bay Campground in Wyoming. The victim, Carl Isom-McDaniel, suffered multiple broken bones but remained conscious until a park ambulance arrived about 10 minutes later. Photographer Mike MacLeod, who recorded the encounter, said the visibly agitated bison had already charged other campers before turning on Isom-McDaniel and his grandson. Witnesses rushed toward the animal, shouting and waving their arms, which appeared to drive it off. The attack happened near Yellowstone Lake during the start of bison mating season, when bulls can become more aggressive.
