Yaqut challenges corruption charges over Rp622 billion hajj quota
In his objection, the former religion minister urged KPK to prove its loss calculation and argued the indictment was vague.
Former Religion Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas read an objection to corruption charges over the 2023-2024 hajj quota at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday. He asked KPK to prove the Rp622,09 miliar state loss cited by prosecutors, including the basis for the calculation method and which part of the quota allocation process allegedly reduced state funds. Yaqut’s legal team also said the indictment was imprecise because it mixed ministerial policy with technical decisions at the directorate general level. They questioned the omission of Fuad Hasan Masyhur from the end of the indictment, even though his name appears several times in the case sequence. In this case, prosecutors accuse Yaqut of diverting and arranging the allocation of an additional 2024 special hajj quota of 50 percent without a technical study.
