White House press secretary Katie Zacharia exits after 5 days

What's new: Her brief tenure unraveled after a widely criticized debut briefing and questions about whether she ever passed a bar exam.

Katie Zacharia is leaving as White House press secretary less than a week after taking the job, ending one of the shortest tenures for the role in recent memory. Zacharia officially started Monday and gave her first and only briefing Tuesday, where reporters pressed her on her performance and on legal credentials that had become a focus of scrutiny. President Donald Trump said Friday he told her she did not have to stay if she did not want to. Zacharia, 41, is a Pepperdine Caruso School of Law graduate who has described herself as an attorney and more recently worked as a communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group, which runs Truth Social.
