White House press secretary Katie Zacharia exits after 5 days

What's new: Her first and only briefing drew scrutiny over her performance and questions about whether she had passed a bar exam.

White House press secretary Katie Zacharia is leaving the job after less than a week, ending a brief and turbulent stint that began Monday. President Donald Trump told reporters Friday that he had urged Zacharia to reconsider whether the role was right for her, and a White House official said she was “transitioning out.” Zacharia held her first and only press briefing on Tuesday, when she read a lengthy opening statement from notes and called on just three reporters. She then faced growing questions about her legal credentials. NPR reported there is no record of her passing a bar exam in any U.S. state, while Zacharia defended describing herself as an attorney and said she had practiced international transaction law. Before joining the White House, she advised Trump Media & Technology Group.
