Video shows drone chasing Kherson vendor in alleged war crime

Ukraine accused Russia of a war crime after video from Kherson showed a drone pursuing a street vendor around his van before exploding. Ukrainian police and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the attack happened on Aug. 4 in the southern city, and President Volodymyr Zelensky circulated the footage as evidence of what Ukraine calls systematic drone attacks on civilians. BBC Verify geolocated the scene to a market area in Kherson’s Tavriiskyi district. The vendor, identified by regional authorities as 52-year-old Yuriy, survived with shrapnel wounds, concussion and trauma. Russia denies deliberately targeting civilians in the war that began with its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
