Vance casts doubt on livestream of Dec. 3 execution in Fort Hood case

What's new: The vice president said he is unsure the Pentagon will carry out the public stream, even as the firing-squad execution remains scheduled.

Vice President JD Vance said he does not know whether the Pentagon will move ahead with a livestream of Nidal Hasan’s Dec. 3 execution, injecting fresh uncertainty into a plan that has drawn criticism across the political and religious spectrum. Hasan, a former Army major and psychiatrist, was convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 unarmed service members in Texas. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has backed making the firing-squad execution public, arguing it would show the consequences of such crimes. Trump has endorsed execution by firing squad for Hasan, but has not publicly committed to the livestream. If carried out, it would be the first public US execution in nearly a century.
