Indonesia debt reaches Rp9,920 trillion, 2025 ratio rises to 40.54%
As of March 31, 2026, the debt ratio rose again to 40.75% of GDP, with most debt coming from SBN.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the government debt ratio in 2025 reached 40.54 percent of gross domestic product, up from 39.81 percent in 2024 but still below the 60 percent limit set by law. In a plenary session of the DPR in Jakarta on Tuesday, he outlined four steps the government will use to hold down the debt ratio: gradual fiscal consolidation to strengthen the primary balance, optimizing state revenue, improving spending quality, and managing the debt portfolio through debt switch, buy back, and loan conversion. Data from the Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management showed the government's debt position as of March 31, 2026 reached Rp9,920.42 trillion, or 40.75 percent of GDP.
