US strike on alleged drug boat in eastern Pacific kills 3
What's new: The attack was the fourth reported this week and pushed the death toll in the campaign past 200.
The U.S. military carried out another strike on a boat it accused of drug trafficking in the eastern Pacific, killing three men and raising the reported death toll in the campaign to more than 200. U.S. Southern Command posted video showing a small vessel hit by a blast and said the boat was moving along a narcotics smuggling route. The latest attack followed strikes reported on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. The campaign began in September 2025 under Operation Southern Spear after President Donald Trump cast Latin American cartels as participants in an armed conflict with the United States. Critics and legal experts have questioned the strikes' legality and noted the government has provided little evidence that targeted boats were carrying drugs.
