US sends dozens more refueling planes to Israel as Iran war risk grows

What's new: Israeli officials said the aircraft buildup could again squeeze operations at Ben Gurion Airport and nearby bases.

Israel is preparing to receive dozens more US aerial refueling aircraft as fighting between the United States and Iran intensifies, according to two Israeli officials. The move follows a week of escalating strikes after an interim ceasefire signed a month ago collapsed, reviving the risk of a broader war. Israel has not joined the latest US attacks, the report said. One military official said Washington was reinforcing the refueling fleet already stationed in Israel as part of an adjusted regional force posture. The buildup has previously strained civilian aviation: Sharon Kedmi said in May that 70% of activity at Ben Gurion Airport was limited by US military operations. As of June 25, 98 US military planes were in Israel.
