US revokes 150 more visas in birth tourism crackdown

The action now includes entry denials, deportations and permanent bans for foreigners tied to the practice.

The United States has revoked 150 additional visas in recent days to curb “birth tourism,” bringing the total number of canceled visas to more than 750. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the crackdown targets members of networks that arrange travel to the US for births so children can obtain US citizenship, as well as visa holders who entered for reasons different from their stated purpose. Earlier, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a new task force had already canceled 600 visas. In early August, President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning the practice. The policy opens the way for entry denials, visa revocations, deportations and permanent travel bans to the US.
