US pulled about 12 B-1 bombers from RAF Fairford after threat
What's new: Trump tied the move to Iran, while the Pentagon shifted the aircraft back to US bases after a security scare near the airfield.
The United States pulled roughly a dozen B-1 Lancer bombers from RAF Fairford in England after what President Donald Trump described as a threat linked to Iran. The Pentagon confirmed Sunday that the aircraft had left the base and returned to home stations in the United States. The move followed a Sept. 27 security incident near Fairford, when police were alerted to three suspicious vehicles close to the airbase perimeter. A BBC report said five British men were arrested and later bailed, and that a UK-Iranian dual national was also arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts before being released on bail. British officials did not disclose the intelligence behind the move, while Iran denied any connection.
