US military to livestream Dec. 3 execution of Fort Hood gunman

What's new: The killing of Nidal Hasan would be the military's first execution since 1961 and its first firing squad since 1945.

The US military plans to livestream the Dec. 3 execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood attack. A Pentagon official said the execution will be public and carried out by firing squad. If it proceeds, it would mark the first US military execution since John Bennett was hanged in 1961 and the first military firing squad since the 1945 execution of Eddie Slovik. President Donald Trump approved Hasan's execution earlier this week. Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013 after a military jury convicted him in the shooting, which killed 12 soldiers and one civilian and wounded 30 others at the Texas base.
