US-Iran talks in Switzerland were called off after Vance pulled out

What's next: The delay clouds a 60-day push to turn the interim pact into a broader deal on Iran's nuclear program and sanctions.

Planned talks between the United States and Iran at Switzerland's Burgenstock resort were called off ahead of Friday, after Vice President JD Vance dropped plans to travel there. Switzerland's foreign ministry said the meeting would not take place but added it remained ready to facilitate talks and that preparatory work was continuing. The session was meant to begin a 60-day negotiation phase tied to the preliminary U.S.-Iran agreement signed online on Thursday to help end the conflict that began in late February. Iranian media had reported Tehran wanted to see signs that Washington was implementing the interim deal before sending negotiators.
