US imposes 25% tariff on some Brazil imports starting July 22

Washington exempted oranges, orange juice, some energy products and several aerospace parts from the tariff.

The United States will impose a 25% tariff on a range of imports from Brazil, effective July 22, 2026. The move closes a yearlong investigation under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 after Washington concluded that Brazil was engaging in unfair trade practices. The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative pointed to digital trade and electronic payments, including alleged advantages for Pix, which is run by Brazil's central bank, that it said hurt U.S. payment providers. The U.S. government also accused Brazilian courts of issuing secret orders to U.S. technology companies to remove political content and suspend accounts. The new tariff will not apply to several products, including oranges, orange juice, certain energy products and certain aerospace components.
