US and Iran restart Swiss talks after Lebanon ceasefire holds

What's next: technical negotiations could test whether this week's 60-day pact can become a broader regional truce and reopen Hormuz shipping.

US envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi were traveling to Switzerland on June 20 to revive talks after a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon reduced pressure on the negotiations. The meetings at Buergenstock had been postponed after Vice President J.D. Vance dropped plans to attend amid rising cross-border fighting. The interim 14-point memorandum signed this week opened a 60-day window to address Iran's nuclear program and other disputes. The talks are also tied to efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and stabilize oil supplies. Lebanon's health ministry said Israeli strikes after midnight into June 19 killed 47 people and wounded 97.
