UN: Nearly 1,000 Palestinians killed since Gaza truce

UN officials say most of the dead were civilians as aid remains restricted and land seizures in the West Bank continue.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said Israeli forces have killed nearly 1,000 Palestinians since a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip was announced in October. In remarks to the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council, Türk said most of the dead were civilians. He also said Israeli authorities were continuing to push Palestinians into an ever smaller area and restrict the delivery of humanitarian aid. In the West Bank, he said Israeli forces and settlers have accelerated the destruction of communities and the seizure of territory. Türk added that 57 people have been killed so far, nearly 1,300 injured, hundreds arrested and 23 land seizure orders issued.
