Ukrainian drone hit tanker at Azov-Black Sea canal entrance

Why it matters: Kyiv says the strikes are part of a campaign to choke fuel shipments to occupied Crimea and Russian forces.

A Ukrainian drone struck a tanker as it entered the Azov-Black Sea Canal, authorities in Russia's Rostov region said Sunday, in the latest attack on shipping tied to Moscow's war logistics. Gov. Yury Slyusar said the fire was brought under control, the vessel was empty and there was no risk of an oil spill. He said no one was hurt. Ukrainian officials have described the broader operation in the Sea of Azov as an effort to disrupt fuel deliveries to Russian-occupied territory, including Crimea. Ukrainian military claims carried by media said dozens of Russian vessels, including tankers, tugs and cargo ships, were targeted in recent days, though some figures could not be independently verified.
