Ukraine strike halts Novorossiysk grain terminals, kills 3
Why it matters: Damage at Russia's biggest Black Sea export hub pushed grain futures higher and forced cargo to shift to other routes.
A Ukrainian drone and missile attack on Russia's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk killed three people, including a child, damaged two major grain export terminals and disrupted port operations, according to Russian officials and companies at the site. The overnight barrage also hit the last major base of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, President Volodymyr Zelensky said, calling it a "unique operation." Russia's agriculture ministry said it was redirecting cargo to Baltic and Caspian ports and to land routes because of logistical constraints. Grain futures rose after the strike. The attack comes as Kyiv has expanded long-range strikes on Russian economic infrastructure while Moscow has kept up attacks on Ukrainian ports and shipping.
