UK tied suspected RAF Fairford attack plot to Iran's IRGC

What's new: Britain sanctioned 2 Iranians after saying the alleged plot targeted a base used by U.S. bombers.

Britain said a suspected plot against RAF Fairford in southwest England was highly likely coordinated in Iran and almost certainly directed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Prime Minister Andy Burnham told Parliament the assessment followed the Sept. 27 arrests of seven men in an investigation into suspected terrorism and explosive offenses near the air base, which has been used by U.S. bombers. Police later found gasoline in three vans but no viable explosives, and all suspects have been released on bail without charges so far. Iran denied involvement. Britain also summoned Iran's ambassador and imposed sanctions on two Iranians, including the head of counterespionage operations in the IRGC.
