UIN Padang student claims intimidation after protest at Kejati Sumbar
LBH Padang says taking a protest participant to the prosecutor’s office could violate constitutional rights if done without clear legal basis.
A student at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, Fadil Ramadhan, said he was taken to the West Sumatra Prosecutor's Office on Sunday, July 12, 2026, two days after a SEMMI Wilayah Sumatera protest there. Fadil said several plainclothes people came to his home with the local RT chief and lurah, then took him away after his parents had already been placed in a car. At the office, he said, he was asked to admit damaging the fence, sign a statement and record an apology video. Kejati Sumbar denied there had been any forced pickup or intimidation. Intelligence assistant Agustinus Hanung Widyatmaka said Fadil was only invited to follow up on the fence damage during the demonstration. LBH Padang said the authorities' move to come to an action participant's home and take him to the prosecutor's office must be tested for legal basis, procedure and accountability.
