Uganda halts school trips after bus crash kills 20 pupils

What's next: Officials are investigating reports of a mechanical fault and the driver losing control on Chekwatit Hill.

Uganda suspended all school trips after a bus carrying pupils from King David Junior School crashed in Kapchorwa district, killing at least 20 children and one adult. The group was returning to Kampala from an educational visit to Sipi Falls when the bus veered off the road, hit a large stone and overturned at Chekwatit village on Thursday evening. Officials said several children and three adults were injured. Preliminary findings pointed to a mechanical fault before the driver lost control on Chekwatit Hill, a road linked to previous serious crashes. Education Minister John Chrysostom Muyingo ordered the halt to excursions while authorities complete a full investigation.
