UAE accuses Iran of attacking 2 ADNOC ships in Strait of Hormuz
The second such incident in less than a week has added to shipping disruption on a route carrying 20% of the world's oil and LNG.
The United Arab Emirates accused Iran of attacking two ships affiliated with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday night, Aug. 13. ADNOC said the situation was under control and there were no injuries. The UAE Foreign Ministry said Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps carried out a “piracy act” by targeting commercial ships and using the strait as an instrument of economic pressure. UAE authorities did not specify the ships' names, cargo or the extent of the damage. It was the second incident involving ADNOC ships in less than a week, after a similar attack was reported on Aug. 8. The Iranian Foreign Ministry and the IRGC have not commented. Before the US-Israel war with Iran broke out on Feb. 28, about one-fifth of the world's oil and LNG passed through the narrow waters between Oman and Iran.
