U.S.-Iran deal intensifies calls for Netanyahu to step down

Israel's opposition and far-right ministers both rejected the peace draft, calling it a setback that weakens Tel Aviv.

The agreement reached by the United States and Iran has jolted Israeli politics and increased pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Several opposition figures and analysts said the peace draft amounts to a strategic setback because it was reached without Tel Aviv's input and risks erasing the gains of Israel's military operations. Gadi Eisenkot described the outcome as the product of a failed government, while Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich also rejected the agreement. Ben Gvir went further, insisting Israel is not bound by President Donald Trump's agreement with Iran. At the same time, Israel must also reconsider its operations in Lebanon against Hizbullah so as not to undermine the new Washington-Teheran diplomatic framework.
