Tupac murder trial opens with claim Davis planned 1996 shooting

What's new: Prosecutors told jurors Duane "Keffe D" Davis sought revenge after a fight involving his nephew, Orlando Anderson.

Prosecutors opened the long-delayed murder trial over Tupac Shakur's 1996 killing by casting Duane "Keffe D" Davis as the organizer of the Las Vegas drive-by shooting. In opening statements Monday, Chief Deputy District Attorney Binu Palal said Davis did not pull the trigger but planned the attack in retaliation after his nephew, Orlando Anderson, was beaten. Davis, 63, has pleaded not guilty. Defense lawyer Michael Sanft called the case fiction built on a flawed investigation and challenged why no arrest came for nearly 30 years. The first witness, former Las Vegas police officer Garry Dale, testified that Shakur refused to identify his shooter while riding in an ambulance.
