Trump tapped Heidi Overton to lead the FDA

What's next: The nomination puts a White House domestic policy aide before the Senate to oversee the nation's drug and food regulator.

President Donald Trump nominated Heidi Overton, deputy director of the White House Domestic Policy Council, to serve as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday. If confirmed by the Senate, Overton would take charge of the agency that regulates prescription drugs, medical devices and much of the U.S. food supply. ABC News identified Overton as a senior domestic policy aide in the Trump White House. The nomination places a close administration adviser atop one of the federal government's most influential public health and consumer safety agencies.
