Trump pressed Russia to cut a peace deal after G7 talks with Zelensky

What's new: European leaders argued Ukraine's position has improved and pushed for more air defense before any talks with Moscow.

President Donald Trump urged Russia to reach a peace deal with Ukraine after what he described as a very good meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky and other Group of Seven leaders at their summit in Evian-les-Bains, France. Trump said he would do what he could to help end the war and planned a bilateral meeting with Zelensky later. Zelensky said the talks centered on strengthening Ukraine's air defenses and advancing diplomacy to force Russia to stop the war. European diplomats described the session as constructive and argued Russia is now on the defensive, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said Ukraine's battlefield position had improved enough to justify stronger backing.
