Trump plans July 3 Mount Rushmore event for US 250th anniversary

What's new: The South Dakota celebration would bring fireworks back to Mount Rushmore for the first time since 2020.

President Donald Trump is set to travel to Mount Rushmore on July 3 for an Independence Day celebration tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary, adding another high-profile event to a semiquincentennial program he has heavily shaped. Organizers said the South Dakota event is expected to include fireworks, military bands, flyovers, tributes to the armed forces and a presidential speech beneath the memorial’s four carved faces. It would mark the first fireworks display at Mount Rushmore since 2020, when Trump also attended. The site remains politically sensitive: Indigenous groups protested the 2020 event, and the National Park Service previously cited tribal, wildfire and environmental concerns over fireworks there.
