Trump pauses US-Israel strikes on Iran pending rapid deal

What's new: Trump tied any pause to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending what he called Iran's nuclear threat.

President Donald Trump said the United States and Israel will hold off on new strikes on Iran if a deal is reached quickly to end the conflict. In a Truth Social post on Aug. 1, Trump said he had agreed to cancel an attack after requests from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries, but only if talks move fast. He said any deal must include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat. The remarks followed reports that Washington and Israel were weighing a new round of attacks, including on Iranian energy infrastructure. The US also warned Americans across the Middle East to stay alert and be ready for possible travel disruptions if tensions rise again.
