Trump orders 30-day government review of top AI models
What's new: The order also sets up an AI cyber clearinghouse after concern over Anthropic's unreleased Mythos model.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order creating a voluntary system for AI companies to give the U.S. government access to their most powerful models up to 30 days before public release. The order also tells federal agencies to build benchmarks for judging AI cyber capabilities and to create an AI cybersecurity clearinghouse with the Treasury Department, the National Security Agency and CISA to coordinate vulnerability scanning and patching. The move followed concern over Anthropic's Mythos model, which the company has held back because it can identify weaknesses in computer systems. The final 30-day review period was scaled back from a 90-day draft after internal White House debate over whether the policy would slow U.S. competition with China.
