Trump moves to end $4 billion in annual US aid to Israel
What's next: Trump said arms sales would continue even as the aid cutoff would upend the current security assistance framework.
President Donald Trump said the United States will stop providing about $4 billion a year in aid to Israel, ending a decades-long pillar of the alliance while still allowing Israel to buy US weapons. Trump said the cutoff would take effect either at the end of this year or in 2027, depending on the account, and said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had discussed the idea with him for years. Netanyahu's office did not immediately comment. The current US-Israel security assistance agreement provides roughly $3.8 billion annually through 2028, and the United States has sent tens of billions more in military support since the Gaza war began after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack.
