Trump meets Putin envoy as US sets Nov. 10-11 Ukraine talks
What's next: US mediators are due in Abu Dhabi as officials weigh security guarantees and a broader European framework.
President Donald Trump privately met Nov. 5 at the White House with Kirill Dmitriev, an envoy for Russian President Vladimir Putin, after Dmitriev appeared at an event with Ukrainian representatives hosted by first lady Melania Trump. Trump offered no details of the meeting but said a deal to end the war in Ukraine could emerge soon. A US delegation is scheduled to mediate talks in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 10 and 11 between Russian and Ukrainian representatives. Trump envoy Jared Kushner said discussions in Brussels with Ukraine, NATO and European partners focused on security guarantees, crisis communications, military transparency, steps to reduce escalation risks, and a long-term European security framework. The White House event followed a six-day ceasefire in Oleshky that expired Nov. 1.
