Trump heads to California, Nevada to bolster GOP on economy

Why it matters: An AP-NORC poll found just 32% approve of his handling of the economy ahead of November's fight for Congress.

President Donald Trump traveled to California and Nevada this week to press his case on the economy, border security and crime as Republicans try to hold Congress in the November elections. Trump stopped Tuesday in Rancho Palos Verdes for a Republican National Committee fundraiser and was set to speak Wednesday at Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas. The trip comes as he faces weak marks on the issue he is trying to elevate: an AP-NORC poll in late July found 32% of U.S. adults approved of his handling of the economy, while 69% described the economy as poor. The visit also puts Trump back in California, where his feud with Gov. Gavin Newsom has intensified since federal troops were sent into Los Angeles after immigration raid protests.
