Trump halts livestream of Nidal Hasan's Dec. 3 execution

What's next: Hasan is still set to die by firing squad, and relatives of the 13 people killed may attend in person.

President Donald Trump reversed plans to livestream the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, saying the Dec. 3 firing squad will go ahead but will not be broadcast. The move came after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Americans would be able to watch and Pentagon officials later confirmed a public stream was planned. Trump wrote that a broadcast might have deterred terrorists, but said many Americans would rather not see Hasan die on video. Hasan, a former Army major and psychiatrist, was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 in the 2009 attack at Fort Hood in Texas. Trump said immediate family members of those killed will be allowed to attend the execution in person if they choose.
