Trump gives Iran 'last chance' as Hormuz and nuclear talks resume

What's next: Trump said the first phase would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with nuclear curbs to follow later.

President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran were in active talks again, casting the negotiations as Tehran's "last chance" to avoid a new round of U.S. attacks. Speaking at the White House, Trump said he held off on a planned strike after appeals from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and others to keep diplomacy alive. He said the first goal was reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the vital oil shipping lane where Iran has obstructed commercial traffic, followed by efforts to address Iran's nuclear program. Iran's foreign ministry denied direct negotiations with Washington, with spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei saying Tehran was talking with Oman about safe passage through the strait.
