Trump defends tariffs in Michigan, floats US exit from USMCA

President Donald Trump defended his tariff strategy during a visit to General Motors' Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan, arguing the levies are pushing automakers to build more vehicles in the United States. In a Fox News interview, Trump also said he would rather leave the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement than renegotiate it, calling the pact more important to Canada and Mexico than to the United States. His remarks came as new U.S. duties of 10% to 12.5% on goods from more than 80 countries took effect under Section 301, and days after a new lawsuit challenged the administration's latest tariff plan as an unlawful revival of policies the Supreme Court had already rejected.
