Trump blames Minnesota as cyberattacks hit 30-plus water systems

President Donald Trump blamed Minnesota officials on Friday for cyberattacks that targeted more than 30 of the state's community water systems, rejecting without evidence an assessment under review by U.S. investigators that Iran or Iran-linked hackers may have been involved. Minnesota IT Services said the attacks on July 26 and 27 targeted programmable logic controllers used to remotely monitor and control equipment. Gov. Tim Walz said other states were also hit and argued cuts to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency left the country more exposed. The FBI and Environmental Protection Agency issued a nationwide warning that at least seven states reported similar incidents, some causing degraded water operations and forcing manual system control.
