Trump-backed Mike Mazzei wins Oklahoma GOP governor runoff

Mike Mazzei won Oklahoma's Republican primary runoff for governor on Tuesday, edging state Attorney General Gentner Drummond after a costly and bitter contest shaped by President Donald Trump's late attacks on Drummond. Mazzei and Drummond had each taken about 26% in the June 16 first round before advancing to the runoff. The 10-week runoff drew more than $14 million in TV and digital ad spending, on top of nearly $40 million already spent earlier in the race, according to AdImpact. Mazzei, a Tulsa businessman and former state senator, thanked Trump for helping him "across the finish line." He now moves to a November race against Democratic nominee Cyndi Munson to replace term-limited Gov. Kevin Stitt.
