Tito urges regional governments to boost supply as inflation hits 3.34%

The biggest pressures came from airfares, garlic, cooking oil and rice during the school holiday period.

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian called on regional governments to strengthen supply and smooth the distribution of goods to hold down inflation in the second half of 2026. He delivered the directive after an inflation control review meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 14. Annual inflation was recorded at 3.34 percent, still below the national target ceiling of 3.5 percent, but the government is watching monthly increases closely. Tito said the main pressure came from transportation, especially air travel during the school holidays, as well as higher prices for garlic, cooking oil and rice. He asked high-inflation regions, especially in eastern Indonesia and Aceh, to quickly add supply and anticipate distribution disruptions caused by weather and high waves. Coordination between TPIP and TPID will be strengthened together with BPS and Perum Bulog.
