TikTok CEO Chew urges 575 NTU PhD graduates to embrace AI era

What's new: Chew told graduates entering a workforce reshaped by artificial intelligence to seek unfamiliar roles and tackle real-world problems.

TikTok CEO Chew Shou Zi told 575 Nanyang Technological University doctoral graduates on Saturday to lean into uncertainty as artificial intelligence transforms the workforce. Speaking at the first of two PhD conferment ceremonies in Singapore, Chew said the Class of 2026 is graduating at a moment of “massive structural change” marked by rapid, compounding innovation. He urged graduates to “actively seek out the unknown,” apply their research skills to ambiguous real-world problems and put themselves in rooms where they are the least experienced person. The 575 doctorate recipients are part of NTU’s largest graduating cohort on record, with more than 14,000 students receiving degrees across 29 ceremonies this year.
