Tesla to wind down Cybertruck output in Texas by mid-2027
What's next: Tesla plans to use the Austin factory capacity for Cybercab as it pushes deeper into robotaxis.
Tesla plans to wind down production of the Cybertruck at its Texas gigafactory around the middle of 2027, a move Elon Musk said would make room for higher Cybercab output at the Austin plant. It is unclear whether Cybertruck production will shift to another factory or end entirely. The pickup, launched in 2023 after delays, never reached the broad demand Musk had projected and has faced recalls, quality issues and repeated price changes. Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill wrote on X that the model “was an incredible technology development platform and lives on through Cybercab,” underscoring Tesla’s broader push to center its future on self-driving vehicles and robotaxis.
